The Alert, Evacuate and Shelter Project is a 4-H Community Readiness Network training, teaching teams how to use geospatial technology, develop partnerships, build emergency teams nationwide and how to keep citizens and communities safe.
 

Although this was not one of the Dacusville 4-H/Leo clubs projects, when it was announced, the club wanted to participate.  The club leaders contacted the Pickens County American Red Cross and the administrator gave us the names of the shelters in Pickens County.  She agreed to let the club have the shelter names provided the names did not appear on any written material or on the web.  She allowed the club to show the points but not the names.

The reasoning behind this request was that if a shelter or shelters were opened, the Red Cross did not want people showing up at shelters that were not opened.
